| Dance Appreciation Class to Feature Live Acts RVCC dance appreciation class goes live next semester. Dance instructor Loretta Fois plans to add live performances to the class and hold them in the gym. Fois said that idea came from the success of a Rutgers University dance appreciation class that had added a live performance component. When the format changed, the number of students who signed up more than doubled, Fois said. For the RVCC class, she intends to recruit dancers from all over New Jersey. Some dancers from Rutgers may perform as well. Fois plans to include ballet, tap, jazz, modern and possibly some African dance companies. The class will meet twice a week for an hour and a half. Students don’t have to purchase a textbook. Instead they will pay a $60 “lab” fee to attend the live performances. After each performance the dancers will hold a Q&A with the students. Fois hopes to have some faculty members perform, tool. Experiencing dance and seeing it live will give the students a better understanding about the world of dance, she said, and hopefully better appreciate the art.
