Phi Theta Kappa Honors Tradition of Involvement

By David Lorduy

Phi Theta Kappa is one of the most respected organizations on campus. This honor society for the two-year college is right in the RVCC campus in the Student Activities Office. Phi Theta Kappa members are noted for their pride and adherence to the four hallmarks of scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship. This prestigious organization rewards excellence by offering scholarships and the opportunity to shape the college and the community.

Service with Alpha Epsilon Pi can make a huge difference and may be the determining factor when being accepted into a university or for receiving a scholarship. In fact, hundreds of colleges and universities offer up to full scholarships just for being a Phi Theta Kappa member. Awards to active members and volunteers such as our Monthly Member of Excellence award, Volunteer of the Month, Honor Student Hall of Fame and our Five Star Member Award are given throughout the year and are noted on transcripts at the end of the semester.
Phi Theta Kappa will be holding many events for the community and will fellowship with other clubs and community organizations. This year Phi Theta Kappa’s Honor Study Topic is “Popular Culture, Shaping and Reflecting Our Lives.” Popular culture related events will begin this year and follow into spring 2006 Semester. Email Phi Theta Kappa to receive a list of events.

To be eligible to be in the Honor Society a student must receive a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and they must have at least 12 credits. If a student does not fit this category, he/she can be a Phi Theta Kappa volunteer whom will still be recognized throughout the campus and whom will be eligible for one of our many non-member awards.

Fall 2004 inductions are on Nov. 11, 2004. Orientation dates are on Oct. 7th - 13th at 12:00pm and at 7:30pm in the atrium, where applications can be picked up for the fall membership induction.
